Hoyas prefer bright light and do not need a lot of water (in fact, they are easy to kill via overwatering). You can use the leaves to help you gauge when they need water- the leaves feel soft vs full and harder. You can also use a moisture meter to determine when the soil is super dry.

Hoya Polyneura can grow long, trailing vines. I gave the mom plant a "haircut" in order to create these cuttings.

Hoyas tend to have shallow root systems. Do not pot in a large pot when it's ready to get into soil! 

Substratum is an aquarium plant substrate. It provides more nutrients than perlite and can be very wet without causing root rot. Substratum breaks down over time, so it's not a medium for a plant to grow in forever. When the you can clearly see a healthy root system through the clear walls of the plastic shot glass, plant in the proper type of soil.
